Seeds and Nuts
Incorporating seeds and nuts into your sourdough bread adds delightful flavor, texture, and nutritional value. Seeds like sesame, poppy, flax, and sunflower, and nuts such as walnuts, almonds, and pecans bring unique tastes and a satisfying crunch to the loaf.
You can incorporate nuts and seeds during the mixing process or fold them in during shaping for an even distribution.
Keep in mind that the additional ingredients may affect the dough's hydration, so you might need to adjust water levels slightly.
Some larger seeds, like chia or flax seeds, benefit from soaking before adding to the dough. Soaking prevents them from drawing too much moisture from the dough during the baking process.
